☛ What Are Singing Bowls?

Singing bowls, also known as Himalayan bowls, are widely used in yoga, music therapy, sound healing, and religious ceremonies. In Buddhist traditions, they are played to signal the beginning and end of silent meditation cycles. Tibetan singing bowls emit pure, resonant tones that are close to sine waves, making their sound synonymous with purity.

Like a bell, the tone is produced by striking the side of the bowl with a wooden mallet. When the mallet is gently rotated around the bowl’s rim with slight pressure, a sustained harmonic sound emerges—this is known as the bowl “singing,” which gives it its name.

☛ Request a Sound Check

We personally inspect each singing bowl to ensure its quality and resonance. However, if you would like to listen to the sound before purchasing, we offer a sound check service for a nominal fee of $2. This non-refundable deposit will be deducted from your invoice upon purchase.

☛ Mandala: A Brief Introduction

Mandala Thangka painting is a revered form of sacred Buddhist art, featuring intricate and vibrant depictions on cotton or silk. These paintings often showcase a central deity or Buddha figure surrounded by symmetrical patterns, geometric designs, and symbolic elements.

Mandala Thangkas serve as powerful meditation tools, guiding practitioners toward inner peace, harmony, and enlightenment. Their precise brushwork and rich symbolism invite deep contemplation, fostering mindfulness, concentration, and a profound connection with Buddhist philosophy.

☛ The Making Process of Hand-Beaten Singing Bowls

The creation of a handmade bronze singing bowl follows a time-honored tradition involving several meticulous steps:

  1. Metal Alloy Formation: A blend of copper and tin is melted down to create the bronze alloy.
  2. Molding: The molten metal is poured into a mold, forming the basic bowl shape.
  3. Hand-Hammering: Skilled artisans use traditional hammering techniques to shape and refine the bowl, ensuring perfect thickness and balance.
  4. Sound Tuning: Craftsmen meticulously adjust the bowl’s structure to enhance its resonance and sustain.
  5. Polishing & Decoration: The finished bowl is polished to a high shine and adorned with intricate etchings and symbolic carvings rooted in Buddhist and Hindu traditions.

Each step requires precision and craftsmanship, making every singing bowl a unique masterpiece.

☛ About the Etching and Carving

This singing bowl features exceptionally fine etching and carving. Unlike standard designs where broader brushes result in thicker lines, we have entrusted a skilled Thangka artist to craft the intricate details. As a result, the carvings are more refined, delicate, and highly detailed, adding to the bowl’s aesthetic and spiritual significance.
