About the Figure: Padmasambhava – The Lotus-Born Guru

Padmasambhava, also known as Guru Rinpoche, is revered as the great Indian tantric master who brought Vajrayana Buddhism to Tibet in the 8th century. Regarded as the Second Buddha by followers of the Nyingma tradition, his legacy continues to inspire Buddhist practice across Tibet, Bhutan, and the Himalayan regions.

His name means “Lotus-Born,” signifying his miraculous birth from a lotus flower in the kingdom of Oddiyana. A master of meditation, mantra, and mysticism, Padmasambhava’s teachings unified spiritual practice with esoteric knowledge, guiding sentient beings on the path of liberation. His profound declaration—”I belong to the caste of non-duality in the sphere of awareness”—remains a powerful testament to his enlightened view of reality.

Silver and Chocolate Oxidized Finish

This exquisite sculpture combines two masterful finishing techniques for a visually compelling and spiritually resonant effect:

  • Silver-plated accents radiate light and clarity, drawing attention to Padmasambhava’s expressive face, regal adornments, and sacred emblems.

  • Chocolate oxidation adds warmth, depth, and an antique character, highlighting the folds of his robes and enhancing the overall sacred ambiance.

The dual-finish enhances texture, contrast, and symbolic richness, making the statue both a work of art and an object of devotion.

Traditional Lost-Wax Casting

Handcrafted by skilled artisans, this statue is created through the Lost-Wax casting method, a revered sculpting technique known for its precision and durability:

  1. A wax model is sculpted with intricate details reflecting the spiritual essence of Padmasambhava.

  2. The model is coated in a ceramic shell, which hardens into a mold.

  3. The wax is melted out, and molten copper is poured in to create the final piece.

  4. After cooling, the mold is removed, and the statue is carefully polished and finished by hand.

This time-honored process ensures that each piece is unique, detailed, and imbued with sacred intention.
