What is a Singing Bowl?
Singing bowls, also known as Himalayan bowls, are widely used in yoga, music therapy, sound healing, and Buddhist ceremonies. In Buddhist tradition, they are played to signal the beginning and end of silent meditation cycles. Tibetan singing bowls emit pure, harmonious tones, often likened to sine waves, which are perceived as deeply calming and therapeutic. Similar to a bell, their sound is produced by striking the bowl’s side with a wooden mallet. Running the mallet along the rim with light pressure creates a continuous resonant tone, giving the bowl its name—“singing bowl.”
Request a Sound Check
We carefully inspect each singing bowl to ensure its sound quality and resonance. If you would like to hear the bowl before purchasing, we offer a sound check service for a nominal fee of $2. This non-refundable deposit will be deducted from your total purchase. Please note that due to microphone and speaker limitations, recorded sound may not fully capture the bowl’s resonance.

Shakyamuni Buddha – A Brief Introduction
The ancient Sanskrit term Buddha translates to “awakened one” or “supreme awareness,” closely linked to Bodhi, meaning enlightenment. Gautama Shakyamuni, born around 563 BCE in Lumbini (now Nepal), embodies compassionate understanding and spiritual awakening. His teachings emphasize the role of desire in perpetuating suffering, a theme echoed in Hinduism, Jainism, and related faiths. He taught that greed, selfishness, and material attachment cloud higher consciousness and contribute to human suffering. In contrast to Western ideals of materialism, Shakyamuni Buddha represents inner enlightenment as the true path to alleviating worldly suffering.
The Hand-Beaten Craftsmanship Process
Each handmade bronze singing bowl undergoes a meticulous crafting process:
- Metal Alloy Formation – A blend of copper and tin is melted and poured into a mold.
- Hand-Hammering & Shaping – Skilled artisans hammer the bowl into shape, carefully refining its thickness for a balanced tone.
- Polishing & Engraving – The surface is polished, and intricate designs are hand-etched using traditional methods, often reflecting Buddhist or Hindu symbolism.
About the Etching & Carving
This singing bowl features exceptionally fine etching and carving. Unlike standard etched bowls, which use thicker brush strokes, this design was created by a skilled Thangka artist, resulting in thinner, more precise, and highly detailed lines. This level of craftsmanship ensures a refined, elegant finish, making this bowl a unique piece of spiritual artistry.
