Who is Marpa Lotsawa?
Marpa Lotsawa (1012–1097), also known as Marpa Chokyi Lodro or Marpa the Translator, was a pivotal figure in the transmission of Vajrayana Buddhism from India to Tibet. A great scholar, practitioner, and teacher, Marpa is most revered for founding the Kagyu lineage, often referred to as Marpa Kagyu in his honor.

Although stories vary, Marpa is often linked as a disciple of the great Mahasiddha Naropa, as well as the renowned master Maitripa and the enlightened Dakini Niguma. Through his tireless journeys to India and profound spiritual accomplishments, Marpa preserved and passed down some of the most essential tantric teachings, including Mahamudra—the Great Seal meditation system that emphasizes the direct realization of mind’s nature.

Sacred Serenity Collection
This statue is part of the Sacred Serenity Collection—a selection of rare, old-stock Buddhist statues crafted 15 to 20 years ago by expert artisans in Nepal. Made from high-quality pure copper, this statue includes thick, partial gold plating that reflects the traditional richness and authenticity not often seen in more recent mass-produced statues.

The craftsmen who created this statue were deeply immersed in Buddhist teachings and followed sacred iconographic texts to ensure accuracy in every detail. Their devotion to their craft was a spiritual discipline in itself. Each statue from this collection carries not only artistic merit but also spiritual depth and intentionality.

Antique Patina Finish
This Marpa Lotsawa statue features an antique patina finish, designed to evoke the aged appearance of ancient Buddhist artifacts. While not a true antique, the patina is skillfully applied through traditional aging techniques. The result is a beautifully weathered look that enhances the spiritual gravitas of the piece, making it suitable for altar use, display, or private meditation spaces.

Lost-Wax Casting Technique
Created through the lost-wax casting process—an ancient method passed down for generations—this statue is a work of precision and tradition. The process begins with a hand-sculpted wax model that captures every minute detail. This model is encased in a ceramic shell, then heated to melt away the wax, leaving a mold into which molten copper is poured.

Once the metal cools and solidifies, the outer shell is removed, revealing a detailed and enduring sculpture. This process ensures that no two statues are exactly alike—each is a unique spiritual artwork infused with history, technique, and reverence.
