About the Figure: Nagarjuna Buddha – Philosopher of Emptiness

Acharya Nagarjuna was a profound Mahāyāna Buddhist scholar, philosopher, and saint revered as the founder of the Madhyamaka (Middle Way) school of thought. Regarded as one of the most influential thinkers in the history of Buddhist and Asian philosophy, Nagarjuna’s writings, especially his seminal work, the Mulamadhyamakakarika (Fundamental Verses on the Middle Way), shaped the philosophical foundation of the Mahāyāna tradition.

His teachings on śūnyatā (emptiness) explore the idea that all phenomena are devoid of intrinsic nature—an insight central to Mahāyāna metaphysics. Nagarjuna’s thought remains a cornerstone of Buddhist philosophical inquiry across Indian, Chinese, Tibetan, Korean, and Japanese traditions.

Silver Plating & Chocolate Oxidized Finish

This handcrafted statue of Nagarjuna Buddha features an exquisite fusion of silver plating and chocolate oxidation, resulting in a compelling contrast of textures and tones:

  • Silver-plated sections glisten with reflective clarity, highlighting specific divine features and symbolic elements.

  • Chocolate oxidized areas introduce a rich, aged patina that deepens the statue’s aesthetic and spiritual resonance.

This dual-finish enhances both visual richness and spiritual gravitas, making it a striking centerpiece in any sacred or contemplative space.

Traditional Lost-Wax Casting

The statue is meticulously sculpted using the Lost-Wax method, an ancient casting technique known for its precision and artistry:

  1. A detailed wax model is crafted, embodying the spiritual and physical nuances of Nagarjuna.

  2. It is encased in a ceramic mold, formed by repeated layering.

  3. The mold is fired, and the wax is melted away, leaving a cavity.

  4. Molten copper is then poured into the mold to form the final sculpture.

  5. Once cooled, the mold is broken to reveal the statue, which is then polished and finished by hand.

This process ensures each statue is a one-of-a-kind creation, marked by exceptional detail, durability, and symbolic depth.
