Shakyamuni Buddha: The Embodiment of Enlightened Awareness
The term Buddha means “awakened one” or “one who has attained supreme awareness.” Shakyamuni Buddha—born Siddhartha Gautama around 563 BCE in Lumbini, present-day Nepal—is revered as the historical founder of Buddhism. His life and teachings focus on understanding the nature of suffering, primarily caused by desire and attachment.
Shakyamuni’s insights into the roots of suffering—greed, ignorance, and ego—resonate across numerous traditions, including Hinduism and Jainism. His message emphasizes inner transformation over material pursuit. The serene posture and expression of this statue reflect his profound wisdom, embodying peace, compassion, and the path to liberation.
Silver and Chocolate Oxidized Finish
This statue is beautifully finished with a combination of partial silver plating and a deep chocolate-toned oxidized patina. The silver-plated sections reflect light and highlight key details of the statue, while the oxidized areas introduce depth and antique character. This dual-tone finish enhances both the aesthetic appeal and symbolic meaning of the piece—representing clarity amid worldly obscuration.
Artisans carefully apply silver to selected areas, while allowing the remaining surfaces to oxidize naturally, producing a rich contrast that draws the eye and evokes reverence. The result is a timeless spiritual artifact with a refined and balanced appearance.
Crafted Using the Lost-Wax Method
The statue is made using the traditional lost-wax casting method, a process that dates back thousands of years. Skilled artisans first sculpt the design in wax, capturing every intricate feature. The wax model is encased in a ceramic mold, which is then fired to melt and “lose” the wax. Molten copper is then poured into the cavity. Once cooled, the ceramic shell is removed, revealing the final metal sculpture.
This meticulous process ensures each piece is a unique, high-quality creation—honoring both the spiritual legacy of Shakyamuni Buddha and the mastery of Nepalese craftsmanship.
