Vajrasattva: Brief Introduction
Vajrasattva, revered as Adi-Buddha by Nepalese Bajracharyas in the Vajrayana tradition, is a highly venerated figure. He is depicted with one face and two hands, and his body is pure white. In his right hand, he holds a five-pronged golden vajra close to his heart, symbolizing indestructible power. His left hand grips a silver bell at his side. Seated in the Vajraparyanka posture, Vajrasattva is adorned with silks, jewels, and a diadem, and his body radiates the divine marks of Sambhogakaya, illuminating with limitless light. His form is said to reflect the transient nature of all things, resembling the moon’s reflection on water, devoid of substantiality. Vajrasattva’s father-mother form, shown only to those initiated in the Highest Yoga Tantra, includes a consort holding a Kartika in her right hand and a kapala in her left.
Antique Finishing
This Vajrasattva statue is crafted with an antique patina finish, designed to mimic the appearance of a timeworn, ancient sculpture. While the statue itself is not an antique, the finish expertly captures the look and feel of a centuries-old artifact. Through specialized techniques, the statue has undergone an aging treatment that imparts a sense of historical depth and spiritual connection, showcasing the artisan’s dedication to replicating the authentic patina of antique pieces.
Lost-Wax System
The Vajrasattva statue is created using the traditional Lost-Wax process, a time-honored technique that has been used for thousands of years. Skilled artisans first sculpt a detailed wax model of the statue, capturing every intricate feature. This wax model is then coated with a ceramic shell, which hardens as it cures. The wax is melted and drained away, leaving a hollow cavity. Molten metal is poured into this cavity to create a precise metal replica of the original wax design. Once the metal has cooled and solidified, the ceramic shell is removed, revealing the final, meticulously crafted sculpture. This process ensures exceptional detail and durability, producing a high-quality piece that will stand the test of time.
