White Tara – Goddess of Compassion and Longevity

White Tara is one of the most beloved female deities in Tibetan Buddhism, representing purity, healing, compassion, and longevity. She is often invoked for protection from illness, removal of obstacles, and the extension of life.

With her seven eyes—including those on her palms, soles, and forehead—White Tara sees the suffering of all beings and responds with limitless loving kindness and wisdom. She personifies the Four Immeasurables:

  • Loving Kindness

  • Compassion

  • Sympathetic Joy

  • Equanimity
Her serene posture and gentle expression make her a calming presence in homes, meditation spaces, and altars.

Gold-Painted Face – A Sacred Ritual

The face of this White Tara statue is hand-painted with real gold, delicately highlighting the eyes, lips, and facial expression.

  • Brings a lifelike spiritual presence to the statue

  • Essential in Buddhist rituals and consecration

  • Reflects the deep devotion and skill of traditional Nepali artisans
The golden face symbolizes enlightened awareness, conveying both the inner light of wisdom and the outer radiance of compassion.

Partly Gold-Plated – Fire Gilding Detail

This statue is partly gold-plated using the fire gilding technique, an ancient and sacred art form:

  • Selective areas like the skin are gilded with gold, while robes are oxidized or painted

  • Highlights the divine nature of Tara’s body in contrast to her humble garments

  • Adds spiritual and visual depth, blending beauty with symbolic meaning
Each piece is carefully masked and fired, allowing the gold to fuse onto specific areas, showcasing masterful craftsmanship and spiritual intentionality.

Crafted with the Lost-Wax Casting Process

Made using the lost-wax technique (cire-perdue)—a centuries-old process:

  1. A detailed wax model of the statue is created

  2. It is encased in a ceramic mold and the wax is melted out

  3. Molten copper is poured into the cavity

  4. Once cooled, the mold is removed, revealing the finished sculpture

This method ensures that every statue is unique, capturing delicate details that reflect both artistic excellence and sacred symbolism.
