Vajrasattva: Brief Introduction
In the Vajrayana tradition, Vajrasattva is revered as a representation of purity and enlightenment. According to the Vajrasattva Kaya text, he is regarded as the Adi-Buddha by Nepalese Bajracharyas who follow the Vajrayana tradition.
Depicted with a white body, Vajrasattva holds a five-pronged golden vajra close to his heart with his right hand, symbolizing compassion and wisdom. In his left hand, he carries a silver bell at his side, representing the perfection of wisdom. He sits in the Vajraparyanka posture, adorned with precious silks, ornaments, and a jewel diadem.
His Sambhogakaya form radiates limitless light, appearing insubstantial like the reflection of the moon in water. Vajrasattva is also depicted in a father-mother (yab-yum) aspect in the context of Highest Yoga Tantra, a form revealed only to initiated practitioners.
Silver and Chocolate Oxidized Finish
This Vajrasattva statue features a captivating finish achieved through a combination of silver plating and dark oxidation. Select areas are meticulously silver-plated, creating a radiant and reflective surface that highlights the statue’s intricate details. The dark oxidized patina adds depth, contrast, and a unique vintage aesthetic, making this piece an extraordinary blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern artistry.
Ceramic Molding System
The Vajrasattva statue is crafted using the ceramic molding system, a modern technique that provides an alternative to traditional methods such as the lost-wax system.
The process begins with the creation of a detailed wax model. This model is encased in layers of ceramic material to form a robust mold. The mold is fired in a kiln, melting the wax and leaving a cavity that perfectly replicates the sculpture. Molten metal is poured into this cavity, capturing every fine detail. Once the metal cools, the ceramic mold is carefully broken away to reveal the finished statue.
This innovative process ensures high precision and quality, resulting in a stunning and timeless representation of Vajrasattva’s enlightened form.
