About Chenrezig (Avalokiteshvara)
Chenrezig, known as Avalokiteshvara in Sanskrit, is one of the most venerated bodhisattvas in Mahayana Buddhism. He embodies the boundless compassion of all Buddhas and is revered for his eternal vow to delay his own Buddhahood until all beings are freed from suffering. Even though he has attained complete enlightenment, Chenrezig remains in the world out of a deep commitment to help sentient beings attain liberation.

In Mahayana tradition, compassion (karuṇā) is held in equal regard with wisdom, and Chenrezig stands as a timeless symbol of that perfect balance. His presence serves as a reminder that nirvana is accessible not just to monks, but to all—laypeople and householders alike.

Full Fire Gold Plating
This statue is finished with traditional fire gold plating, also known as mercury gold plating. Unlike modern electroplating, this authentic Nepalese technique involves fusing a genuine layer of gold onto the copper body through intense heat. The result is a rich, lustrous surface that radiates warmth and spiritual brilliance.

While more costly, fire gold plating is prized for its durability, depth, and authenticity. It has seen a revival in recent years, with collectors and practitioners alike valuing the craftsmanship and cultural heritage it preserves. The finish not only enhances the beauty of Chenrezig but also protects the statue for generations to come.

Gold Painted Face
The face of this Chenrezig statue is delicately hand-painted with 24K gold, with special attention given to the eyes and lips. This sacred ritual practice brings an added sense of life and presence to the statue, allowing it to serve as a proper object of meditation and devotion.

The painting of the face is a deeply symbolic act in Buddhist craftsmanship. It represents the invocation of spirit and blessing, signifying that the statue is no longer a mere object but a sacred embodiment of compassion and mindfulness. It also highlights the exceptional attention to detail and reverence involved in the creation process.

Lost-Wax Casting Method
This statue is created using the lost-wax casting technique, a revered process used for centuries in Himalayan art. Skilled artisans first sculpt the statue in wax, capturing every fine detail by hand. This wax model is then coated in ceramic layers to create a mold. Once hardened, the wax is melted out, and molten copper is poured in, forming a perfect metal replica.

After cooling, the mold is broken away to reveal a unique, high-detail sculpture, ensuring that no two statues are exactly alike. The technique reflects the precision, patience, and artistry required to produce such an exceptional spiritual icon.
