Padmasambhava: Brief Introduction
Padmasambhava, meaning “The Lotus-Born”, was an 8th-century sage who played a pivotal role in transmitting Vajrayana Buddhism to Tibet, Bhutan, and neighboring regions. Known as Guru Rinpoche (“Precious Guru”) or Lopon Rinpoche, followers of the Nyingma school revere him as the Second Buddha.
His teachings and influence transformed spiritual practices in the Himalayan region, combining meditation, wisdom, and esoteric rituals. Padmasambhava’s profound philosophy includes his self-identification:
“My father is the intrinsic awareness, Samantabhadra. My mother is the ultimate sphere of reality, Samantabhadri. I act in the way of the Buddhas of the three times.”
