Green Tara: Brief Introduction
Green Tara, also known as Samaya Tara, is revered as the embodiment of swift compassion and active benevolence. Depicted in royal ease posture, her left leg remains folded while her right leg extends gracefully over a lotus, ready to rise and aid those in need. Adorned in maroon Buddhist robes and fine jewelry, she wears earrings symbolizing patience, understanding, and renunciation. Her diadem, set with five jewels, represents the transformation of the five human delusions into the Five Wisdoms of the Buddhas. Seated upon a white moon disk—a symbol of wisdom paired with compassion—she radiates serene grace. Her right hand is extended in Varada mudra, the boon-granting gesture, offering blessings to all sentient beings.

Gold Painted Face
The face of Green Tara is delicately hand-painted with gold, bringing vivid life to her eyes, lips, and other refined features that cannot be fully captured through carving alone. In Buddhist tradition, this act is a sacred ritual that symbolizes awakening the spiritual presence of the statue. The gold painting enhances the statue’s vitality, imbuing it with reverence and deep symbolic meaning, while also showcasing the artisan’s devotion and precision.

Partly Gold Plating
Crafted using the traditional Nepali partly fire-gilding technique, this statue features selectively gold-plated areas achieved through a careful masking process. Exposed sections receive a genuine gold layer applied under heat and pressure, producing a striking contrast between the radiant gold-plated body and the oxidized or painted garments. This visual distinction symbolizes the divine purity of the enlightened form alongside the modest attire of a monk, blending beauty with profound spiritual symbolism.

Lost-Wax System
This piece is cast using the ancient lost-wax method. A detailed wax model is first sculpted, then encased in layers of ceramic material to form a mold. Once cured, the wax is melted out, and molten copper is poured in to fill the cavity. After cooling, the ceramic shell is removed, revealing a finely detailed statue that faithfully preserves the precision and artistry of the original design.
