About Green Tara
Green Tara, also known as Samaya Tara, is one of the most revered deities in Tibetan Buddhism. She is often visualized in a pose of royal ease, with one leg drawn in and the other extended, symbolizing her readiness to spring into action and aid those in need. Her posture reflects active compassion and enlightened activity.
She is adorned in flowing maroon Buddhist robes and intricate jewelry. Her earrings represent the virtues of patience, understanding, and renunciation, while the five-jeweled diadem atop her head symbolizes the transmutation of the five afflictions into the Five Wisdoms of the Buddhas. Seated upon a white moon disk, symbolic of the wisdom aspect in Buddhism, her right hand is shown in Varada Mudra—the gesture of generosity—offering blessings to all sentient beings.
