About Green Tara
This handmade statue represents Samaya Tara, widely known as Green Tara—the embodiment of enlightened activity and swift compassion in Buddhism.

She is depicted in a posture of royal ease, with her right leg folded inward and her left leg extended outward, touching a blue lotus, symbolizing her readiness to spring into action to assist all beings.

She wears maroon Buddhist robes, ornate jewelry, and a five-jewel diadem that represents the transformation of the five mental poisons into the Five Wisdoms of the Buddhas.

The earrings signify patience, renunciation, and understanding. Seated upon a white moon disk, symbolizing wisdom and healing nectar associated with the navel chakra, she radiates calm and benevolence. Her right hand is extended in Varada Mudra, the gesture of generosity and blessings.

Gold-Painted Face
The face of this Green Tara statue is delicately hand-painted in gold, emphasizing the eyes and lips to reflect lifelike expression and spiritual essence that metalwork alone cannot convey.

Gold face painting is a sacred ritual in Buddhist tradition, symbolizing the activation of the statue for spiritual practice and consecration. The careful detailing not only enhances the beauty of the piece but also reflects the artisan’s devotion and deep reverence for the deity.

Partly Gold-Plated Finish
This statue features partly fire-gilded gold plating, a traditional Nepali technique. Select areas of the sculpture—primarily the skin and divine elements—are gilded, while the robes remain oxidized copper or painted maroon.

This visual contrast symbolizes the pure, divine nature of the deity’s body and the simplicity of monastic life. The fire gilding technique involves masking, heat application, and high-skill craftsmanship, resulting in a rich, glowing finish that highlights the sacredness of the sculpture.

Craftsmanship – Lost-Wax Casting
This Green Tara statue is produced using the Lost-Wax Casting Process (Cire Perdue), an ancient method practiced by skilled metal artisans:

A wax model is sculpted with intricate details.

Layers of ceramic coating form a mold around the model.

The wax is melted and drained, leaving a hollow mold.

Molten copper is poured into the mold to form the final figure.

Once cooled, the mold is broken to reveal the statue.

This method ensures high detail, durability, and uniqueness in each piece—no two statues are ever exactly alike.
