🌟 Wheel of Life – An Overview
The Wheel of Life (Bhavachakra) is a profound visual depiction of samsara—the endless cycle of birth, death, and rebirth in Buddhist philosophy. At the heart of the wheel are the three root poisons: ignorance, attachment, and aversion, which drive the cycle of suffering. Surrounding this core are six realms of existence—deities, humans, animals, hungry ghosts, hell beings, and demi-gods—each illustrating the consequences of karma and the varied states of rebirth. Encircling these are the twelve links of dependent origination, symbolizing the chain of cause and effect that sustains the cycle.
This sacred artwork serves as a powerful meditation tool, reminding practitioners of the impermanence of life, the nature of suffering, and the path to liberation through mindfulness, ethical living, and wisdom.
🖼️ What is a Thangka?
A thangka (also spelled tangka, thanka, or tanka) is a traditional Tibetan Buddhist scroll painting, revered for its spiritual and artistic value. Created on cotton or silk using natural mineral pigments, thangkas illustrate key Buddhist figures, teachings, and sacred mandalas. These artworks are typically mounted on textile brocade and are designed to be rolled up for storage, preserving their scroll-like format. A protective silk cover often adorns the front. Thangkas not only serve as meditation aids and teaching tools but also as blessings for spiritual environments. Proper care—especially in dry, stable climates—is essential to maintain their longevity and vibrancy.
