Chintamani Lokeshvara is a compassionate Bodhisattva believed to fulfill both physical and spiritual needs. Regarded as a form of Avalokiteshvara, he is especially venerated in the Kathmandu Valley, Nepal. Rooted in Mahayana Buddhism—the Great Vehicle—Chintamani embodies the ideal of a Bodhisattva: one who possesses the power to attain enlightenment but chooses to stay behind to guide and aid sentient beings.
