About Chenrezig (Avalokiteshvara)
Chenrezig, known in Sanskrit as Avalokiteshvara, is one of the most revered deities in Mahayana Buddhism. As the embodiment of infinite compassion, he chooses to remain in the cycle of rebirth, delaying his own enlightenment to assist all sentient beings in achieving liberation. This selfless act of compassion makes Chenrezig a central figure in Buddhist teachings and devotional practice.

In Mahayana tradition, compassion is regarded as equal in importance to wisdom, and Chenrezig exemplifies this balance. Unlike early Buddhist ideals focused primarily on monastic paths, Chenrezig’s presence symbolizes the possibility of enlightenment for all—monastics and laypeople alike. His serene expression and multiple arms reflect his readiness to aid beings in every direction.

Stone Setting
This Chenrezig statue is gracefully adorned with semi-precious stones including turquoise, coral, and lapis lazuli. Each stone is carefully selected and meticulously inlaid to highlight the intricate design and divine aura of the deity. The vibrant colors and fine detailing of the stonework add a luxurious elegance to the statue, making it a visually captivating piece of spiritual art.

Gold Painted Face
The face of Chenrezig is delicately painted with pure gold, emphasizing his eyes and lips, which convey compassion and peace. This sacred painting ritual is an essential part of Buddhist consecration, believed to breathe life into the statue and imbue it with spiritual presence. This level of craftsmanship speaks to both artistic excellence and devotional reverence, enhancing the statue’s value as a spiritual object.

Full Fire Gold Plating
Crafted using the traditional fire gold plating technique—also known as mercury gold plating—this statue is enveloped in a rich and authentic layer of gold. Unlike electroplating, this ancient method uses genuine gold and heat to bond the metal permanently to the copper body. Known for its longevity, brilliance, and authenticity, fire gold plating is a hallmark of high-quality Nepali craftsmanship and is once again gaining popularity among collectors and spiritual practitioners.

Lost-Wax Casting Method
The statue is produced using the lost-wax casting process, a time-honored method practiced for centuries across the Himalayas. Artisans first sculpt a detailed wax model, which is then coated with a ceramic shell. Once the shell hardens, the wax is melted and drained, and molten copper is poured into the cavity. After cooling, the ceramic mold is removed, unveiling a highly detailed and durable sculpture. This method ensures that each piece is unique, with a level of precision that reflects the dedication of the artisans.
