About Shakyamuni Buddha

The term “Buddha,” derived from ancient Sanskrit, means “awakened” or “supreme awareness” and is deeply associated with “Bodhi,” signifying enlightenment. Shakyamuni Buddha, also known as Gautama Buddha, was born around 563 BCE in Lumbini, Nepal.

He symbolizes compassion, wisdom, and enlightened consciousness. His teachings emphasized:

  • Understanding how desire perpetuates suffering.
  • Overcoming greed, selfishness, and possessiveness to uncover higher awareness.
  • Finding inner peace to alleviate suffering in the world.

Shakyamuni Buddha’s serene presence contrasts with Western ideals of materialism, highlighting inner enlightenment as the key to overcoming worldly challenges.

Crafted with the Lost-Wax Technique

This Shakyamuni Buddha statue is created using the ancient lost-wax casting method. This meticulous process includes:

  1. Wax Model Creation: Artisans craft a highly detailed wax model.
  2. Ceramic Mold Formation: Layers of ceramic material form a robust shell around the wax model.
  3. Casting the Metal: Molten metal is poured into the mold after the wax is melted and removed.
  4. Finishing Touch: Once cooled, the ceramic shell is broken away to reveal the completed sculpture.

This traditional technique ensures exceptional precision, capturing the intricacies of the Buddha’s serene expression and posture.
